The voice of Charlie Brown, Peter Robbins has been arrested on suspicion of one count of felony stalking and four felony counts of making criminal threats.
Peter Robbins was taken into custody Sunday night at the San Ysidro Port of Entry when a background check revealed an active warrant out for his arrest from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
He was driving a silver 2006 Mercedes-Benz C230 when a border officer referred him to an area for further inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Angelica de Cima told U-T San Diego. He was the only person in the car at that time.
Robbins was booked into the San Diego Central Jail around 3:40 a.m. Monday and held in lieu of $550,000 bail, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s website, which also showed the 56-year-old could be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on counts of making a threat to cause death or great bodily injury and stalking.
The rep for Peter Robbins had no comment for his arrest.
Robbins began doing the voice of Charlie Brown in the late 1960′s when he was at the age of 9, but his voice changed when he hit 14-years old.
Robbins also provided Charlie Brown voices for TV specials, “A Boy Named Charlie Brown,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
A Peanuts Movie is expected to be released in 2015 with the screenplay written by the grandson of the cartoon’s creator Charles M Schulz.
Last year, Peter Robins questioned the point of the film being released. “If it’s to reintroduce the character of Charlie Brown to a new generation, it’s been passed on successfully for 46 years. That’s the beauty of it,” he said, adding they “It just seems to me they’re trying to steal the thunder of these great classics.”
