Tim Allen's Chevy

A man from Denver is facing charges for supposedly stealing a 1996 Chevy Impala that belongs to Tim Allen. According to the Associated Press, the man, who also claims to be his adopted son, is facing charges for taking the car out of the Home Improvement star’s Los Angeles home last week and drove it all the way to his home in Colorado. However, according to the suspect, he didn’t steal the car but simply borrowed it from his father.

Faustino Ibarra, 34, claims that he was adopted a few years ago from actor Tim Allen.  According to Ibarra, his “father” recently gave him permission to take the 1996 Chevy Impala that he drove to his home in Colorado. Ibarra stuck with his story when a reporter for Fox affiliate KDVR asked about what happened.

From behind bars, Ibarra told the reporter that, “I emailed my dad the morning that I got the car in and everything is fine and I’ve got the car and it’s ready for you and we need to talk about me coming to live with you.” When suggested that the whole story seemed to be crazy and far-fetched, Ibarra became defensive and said, “I don’t care how it sounds, I know who I am. He knows who I am. He knows who he is.”

Reps for Allen could not be reached for comment; however, the Denver police spoke with KDVR. They said that Ibarra has been allegedly badgering Allen for several years and after doing some research, they found no evidence that supports his claim about ever being adopted. Police may add a charge of stalking as well as there is a concern Ibarra has mental issues.

Ibarra denies he has any mental issues and said, “My dad loves the heck out of me,” offered Ibarra, who denied he has mental health issues. “He’s ultra-proud of me and he wants to see the best for me in every way.”

Ibarra was arrested Saturday when his family noticed the car and called the police. He is currently in jail without bond and is waiting for Los Angeles County prosecutors to decide this week if they will extradite him back to California.

Tim Allen's Car Stolen

Though a 1996 Chevy Impala does not sound to be a very desirable vehicle to own, Allen had customized the car to make it extremely desirable. Allen worked with Chevrolet’s Jon Moss and Wheel to Wheel’s Jeff Beitzel back in 1996 to convert the Impala into a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Modifications were made to both interior and exterior that it touts a DOHC 32-valve Corvette ZR1 engine and delivers 446 hp. Also, the vehicle’s rear boasts a “Binford 6100” badge, the fictitious tool manufacturer from “Home Improvement’s ‘Tool Time’ show.”
